This movie could be the push you need to shake things up in your life.
Short Plot Synopsis of Yes Man Movie
Yes Man tells the story of a thirty something year old male, Carl, played by Jim Carrey, who has lost his way in life. Carl’s ex-wife Stephanie left him several years prior because his zest for life was gone and he wasn’t truly living.
Stuck in the same dead end job for years, and his social life consisting of the local video store, Carl needs something to shake him out of the rut that has become his life. Days pass and nothing seems to change in his stagnant, hopeless existence.
Until one day, while on a break at work, an old child-hood friend Nick approaches him with a flyer with the words, ‘Yes is the New No’. Nick encourages Carl to attend this seminar boasting that it will change his life.
Carl is curious and decides to attend the meeting, where he makes a covenant, where he must say yes to every opportunity presented to him. Carl begins to understand that when he does say yes, it opens doors of opportunity and he actually starts to begin living his life for the first time in years.
In the movie he meets, Alison, played by Zooey Deschanel, a carefree hippy girl who sings in a band and inspires Carl to let go even further, and not be bothered of other people’s opinions. Throughout the film Carl discovers the true meaning of life, to say yes at every given moment, and live it to the fullest.
A Look into the Message Behind the Yes Man Movie
This movie definitely inspires one to ponder the true meaning of life, and questions what true success really is. As Carl volunteers at homeless shelters, and helps those less fortunate, it motivates one to wonder what is really rewarding in life, and instead of striving to have it all, it poses the question of what actually makes people happy.
Yes Man sends the message that wealth is not the be all and end all of happiness, because as Carl discovers, he starts forming great friendships with people he normally wouldn’t expect to and finds that giving back is one of the greatest gifts of all.
Yes Man Inspires Positive Thinking
Instead of saying no and not making the time to help someone else, Yes Man proves that by making the time to help someone else, not only are you giving something back to another, but you are also fulfilling your own life. By saying yes to life you can not only change the way your life is, but you can also influence others to do the same by living theirs to the full potential.
